“If it’s so, we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time” — “Sad Captains”

Six album by these British lads and they continue to amaze. Garvey is always talking about this band in two ways: 1) They should have never made it and 2) They are the greatest band on mother Earth. I would say the later is much closer to the truth. The Take Off and Landing of Everything follows the same vein as Build A Rocket Boys! with its delicate approach to song craft, at times feeling rockish, at others leaning more toward orchestral and even gospel sounding. They never cease to stop surprising me with their ability to create a mood and change the way I am feeling in a listening moment. Its listening music for certain. And no song more so than “My Sad Captains” which Garvey tells is a shout out to his old drinking buddies that he no longer sees, but knows that their moments together were most memorable.
